Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
